The 918 Black Sox are a competitive youth baseball team built on Fundamentals, Structured Support, and Max Effort. Ranked #3 in Oklahoma and #38 nationally at the end of last season, our players compete hard while learning teamwork, discipline, and respect for the game.
Coach Kody has been in and around baseball his whole life. He was an All-State Catcher in High School and two-time NAIA All-American Catcher in College. After College, he started coaching baseball at Union High School. He started as the Head JV Coach, then went on to be one of the assistant varsity coaches for two years coaching 3rd base and focusing on hitters and catchers. He also coached private lessons with players starting at 6 years old all the way up to college players for 10+ years after college. He has been coaching youth baseball for the last 3 years. Kody is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of baseball, developing a passion for the game, and encouraging hard work and respect for the game. Kody and his wife, Lexi have three children, Haven (not pictured), Dawson, and Carly.
Coach Keith has coached youth baseball for 11 years, youth soccer for 8 years, and youth basketball for 7 years. He enjoys teaching young athletes the fundamentals of the game and how to have a strong mentality. He grew up in Sallisaw, OK, graduating high school in 2000. He played a couple years of junior college baseball as a pitcher at Carl Albert State College before getting his degree in Horticulture and Turf Management at Oklahoma State University. He is the golf course superintendent at Eagle Creek Golf Club at Downstream Casino, He met his wife, Lindsey, while at OSU and they have 2 boys, Wittaker and Waylon. They currently reside in Verdigris, OK.
Coach Matt has been involved in coaching his kid’s various youth sports over the last 3 years. He grew up playing baseball in southeast Kansas, the son of a high school baseball coach. He really enjoys the mental side of sports, teaching focus, attention to detail, strategy, and discipline as these skills serve kids well beyond the field. During undergraduate he spent a couple seasons on the baseball team as a catcher before going to pharmacy school and training as an oncology pharmacist. Matt is an avid outdoorsman and resides in Tulsa with his wife Paige, and two kids Graham and Grace. There, they are actively involved in their school and church community.
